Roughly how long is the line?

Pace it off or measure on your plat. A guess is fine.

How tall?
Which style?
Walk gates
A driveway gate too?
Does an old fence come out first?
Where is the property?

This decides who reviews the fence and what the permit costs.

What is the ground like?
Is the line flat or on a slope?

What the range is made of

  • Wood privacy, about 150 ft: $3,000 to $4,500. $20 to $30 per linear foot installed, a typical Atlanta-area range for a 6 ft privacy fence.
  • 1 walk gate: $150 to $600. $150 to $600 each, a typical Atlanta-area range for a gate added to a fence run.

Johns Creek requires a fence permit for new and replacement fences. The city fee schedule lists the residential fence permit at $75.

Where your project may fall

  • Toward the low endA flat line keeps posts and sections simple.

Taken together, your answers point toward the low end of the range.

Not included

Surveys, HOA fees, staining after a wood fence dries, sprinkler or landscape repair and anything found once digging starts are priced separately.

These are typical Atlanta-area budgeting ranges, not a quote from Upright Johns Creek Fencing. The price for your property comes after someone walks the line.

How the estimate works

The tool multiplies your length by a typical Atlanta-area installed range for the material: $20 to $30 per linear foot for a 6 ft wood privacy fence, $20 to $40 per linear foot for vinyl, $25 to $50 per linear foot for aluminum or ornamental and $8 to $24 per linear foot for chain link. It then adds $150 to $600 for each walk gate and $3 to $7 per linear foot to tear out and dispose of an old fence. These are budgeting ranges, not Upright Johns Creek Fencing's rates.

Ground, slope, height and style each add a note saying whether they push the job toward the high or low end. There is no defensible way to turn those into percentages, so the tool does not. Ornamental steel, horse and farm fence and driveway gates are priced per project, so for those it explains the factors instead of giving a number.

The permit line uses the City of Johns Creek Community Development fee schedule, which lists the residential fence permit at $75. A permit is required for new and replacement fences. Other cities set their own fees, which are confirmed for the address. The Johns Creek permit guide covers the process.

What the range leaves out

  • A boundary survey, if the line needs one
  • HOA application fees
  • Staining a wood fence once it has dried
  • Sprinkler, landscape or hardscape repair along the line
  • Driveway gates, gate operators and masonry columns

Read the fence cost guide or take the repair or replace assessment.
